How It's Calculated

Tax Year 2026-27 Salary Slab Rates

Pakistan taxes salary income progressively: each slab of your income is taxed at its own rate, not your whole salary at the top rate you fall into. These are the current rates under the Finance Act for tax year 2026-27 (July 2026 to June 2027). Pick a different tax year in the calculator above and this table updates to match.

What This Calculator Doesn't Cover

This tool is built for a quick, honest estimate, not a substitute for an actual tax computation. A few things it deliberately leaves out:

  • Tax credits, such as approved charitable donations, pension fund contributions, or investment-related credits.
  • Income from sources other than salary, such as rent, business profit, or capital gains, which are taxed under their own rules.
  • Employment structures where part of your pay is arranged as reimbursements or benefits-in-kind rather than straightforward cash salary.

Common Questions

Salary Tax Calculator FAQs

How accurate is this salary tax calculator?

It applies FBR's official tax year 2026-27 slab rates for salaried individuals under the normal tax regime, so it's a reliable planning estimate. Your actual liability can differ slightly depending on other income, tax credits, and allowances, which is why this is an estimate rather than a filed return.

Does this calculator account for filer vs non-filer status?

Salary income itself is taxed at the same slab rates regardless of filer status. Filer status mainly affects withholding tax rates on other transactions, such as property, banking, and vehicle purchases, not the salary slabs shown here. We can walk you through that separately if it's relevant to you.

Is a bonus or annual increment taxed differently from regular salary?

No. Bonuses, arrears, and most cash allowances are added to your total taxable salary for the year and taxed at the same progressive slab rates, not a separate flat rate. Enter your full annual gross, including any bonus, for an accurate result.

What counts as "gross salary" for this calculator?

Your total salary income before tax: basic pay, allowances, and bonus combined. A few specific items, such as certain medical allowances, can be treated differently depending on how they're structured in your employment contract, which this quick calculator doesn't attempt to itemize.

My employer isn't deducting tax correctly. What should I do?

Under-deduction becomes your liability at filing time, and over-deduction means you're owed a refund either way. We can review your payslips against the correct slab, and help with your return so it's reconciled properly.

Can I use this for freelance or business income instead of salary?

Not accurately. Business and freelance income follow different rules, including allowable expenses and, in some cases, different rate treatment, so this salary-specific tool will overstate what you'd actually owe. Contact us and we'll calculate it properly for your situation.

Can I calculate my salary tax for a previous year?

Yes. The Tax Year dropdown covers 2022-23 through 2026-27, each using that year's actual slab rates, not the current year's rates applied retroactively. This is useful for filing a late or amended return, or for comparing how much your tax bill has changed year to year.

What is the high-income surcharge, and which years does it apply to?

For tax years 2024-25 and 2025-26, salaried individuals with annual taxable income above Rs 10 million paid an extra surcharge on top of their calculated tax: 10% in 2024-25, reduced to 9% in 2025-26. This surcharge was abolished starting tax year 2026-27. The calculator applies it automatically when it's relevant to the year and income you select.
